A liturgical conference in – YES -  San Francisco is charging a staggering US $50,000 to “meet and greet” Cardinal Pell and a slightly less staggering $20,000 to “meet and greet” Cardinal Sarah, both at one time considered front-runners to be the next Pope.

The conference, Sacra Liturgia, on traditionalist and restorationist talking points – Code for promoting the Latin Mass - will take place in the San Francisco archdiocesan seminary of St Patrick’s, Menlo Park, in the heart of Silicon Valley.

Archbishop Cordileone, the Archbishop of San Francisco, will conclude the conference by celebrating a Traditional Latin Mass at the historic Mission Dolores basilica, founded in 1776 by St Junipero Serra, a Spanish Franciscan missionary.

Cardinal Pell, an Australian, was for years a top Vatican official. He served as the inaugural prefect of the Secretariat for the Economy between 2014 and 2019 as well as being a member of the Council of Cardinal Advisers between 2013 and 2018. In 2018 he was found guilty of various sexual offences. The convictions were later quashed by the High Court of Australia in 2020.

Cardinal Sarah, a Guinean, was prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments from 2014 to 2021.
